4 Pretty Pink Hotels To Inspire a Barbie-Themed Getaway

There’s just something about a hotel drenched in pink. While it’s been a few years since Millennial Pink made its debut, we’re still in love with the color. Rose-hued hotels are both dreamy and romantic, and we can’t seem to get enough.

Also, if you’re into design (like us) or historic hotels, the pink properties on our list have a bit of both. Pastel painted resorts really became popular in the 1920s and again in the 1950s, and while most have all the modern comforts, they still evoke a sweet vintage charm. We think they’re darling for a Valentine’s Day stay, girls’ weekend or when you’re in need of just a whimsical getaway, even Barbie herself would approve of. Here are our top four favorite “pretty in pink” hotels.

SANDS HOTEL & SPA | palm desert

STAY A dazzling oasis the middle of the California desert, this soft pink structure definitely creates quite the Insta-worth moment. However, luxurious suites, poolside cabanas and eclectic but somehow also classic vibe make this property much more than meets the eye. A concept brought to life by celebrated interior designer, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Sands Hotel & Spa is located in Indian Wells, California, just a short drive from Coachella Polo Grounds and the Paseo Shopping District near Palm Springs. The hotel’s whimsical combination of Moroccan-inspired influence paired with thoughtful mid-century touches creates an environment unlike any other. Adults-only, Sands provides an ideal escape for any pair looking to get away, and be wrapped in brilliant design in the process.

SEE The property’s spa offers a couple’s treatment room plus a menu inspired by Moroccan ingredients meant to detoxify and replenish.

LA VALENCIA HOTEL | la jolla

STAY An iconic destination since 1926, La Valencia Hotel offers a Mediterranean escape in the quaint La Jolla Cove just minutes from San Diego, California. Situated on a coastal bluff overlooking the Pacific, this “Pink Lady” is a charter member of Historic Hotels of America. The property’s hand-painted murals and lush grounds have welcomed many glamorous guests including presidents to the Hollywood elite. The creamy pink exterior and bright design makes for an idyllic Valentine’s stay. We adore the classic rooms and suites for their coastal charm and unparalleled views of the beach below.

BELMOND MOUNT NELSON | cape town

STAY Painted pink as a symbol of peace at the end of the first world war in 1918, this colonial stunner sits at the foot of Table Mountain in charming Cape Town. A former garden estate, Mount Nelson was reopened as a luxury hotel in 1899 by Sir Donald Currie. It was actually the first hotel in South Africa to offer hot and cold running water! The property is now owned by the world renowned Belmond brand, and remains a blissful romantic escape and its famous pastel hue is still as classic as ever. We adore the Garden Cottage Suites which sit behind lush scented rose gardens and a white picket fence, the perfect hideaway for couples.

SEE The hotel offers nine sprawling acres of English-influenced gardens, and afternoon tea is served daily.

THE ROYAL HAWAIIAN | honolulu

STAY No hotel in Honolulu is quite as iconic as The Royal Hawaiian. Known as the “Pink Palace of the Pacific”, this historic property is one of just a select few hotels that sits directly on the famed stretch of Waikiki Beach. Built in 1927 and one of the oldest on Oahu, the resort’s design was influenced by Hollywood star, Rudolph Valentino, and it retains a touch of that Hawaiian kitsch. Originally just six floors, the now 17-story Mailani Tower was built in 2015 and blends seamlessly into the original structure. Our favorite rooms sit in the new addition, and offer some of the most incredible ocean views of Waikiki Bay and Diamond Head. Because of its location, the pink hotel is shielded from some of the noisy neighbors on the remaining stretch of Waikiki, and is a lovely option for couples looking for some relaxation in the middle of it all.

SEE The hotel offers all the beach activities you can think of from surfing to snorkeling, plus weekly history tours, and pink pancakes!
